A Harvard scientist is proposing a startling explanation for unusual pulses detected from the comet 3I/ATLAS: it could be evidence of alien technology. Astrophysicist Avi Loeb suggests the rhythmic pulses resemble a 'heartbeat' and might indicate the comet is not a naturally occurring celestial object, but rather a spacecraft.

Loeb, director of Harvard University's Institute for Theory and Computation, told The Washington Post that the pulses could represent periodic bursts of thrust used for orbital adjustments or other internal functions within a spacecraft. He emphasizes that this is a speculative hypothesis, but one worthy of further investigation.

3I/ATLAS, formally known as Comet ATLAS, was discovered in 2020. It gained attention for its unusual behavior and brightness as it approached the Sun. While comets often exhibit unpredictable activity, the regularity of these pulses has prompted Loeb's unique interpretation. He has previously advocated for searching for evidence of extraterrestrial technology in the solar system, viewing it as a legitimate scientific pursuit.
